Mentoring
KITES believes strongly in continuously preparing our participants for the future
based on the insight and guidance of present and past leaders; Mentors!
The following excerpt serves as a testimony to the benefits of such relationships: “The concept of the old African proverb, ‘It takes a village to raise a child,’ is something to which I attribute much of my success. I was fortunate to have a supportive network of family and friends to guide me. Additionally, it was the kindness of strangers investing in my future, which fueled my desire to become a physician. These mentors helped to provide leads to supplemental educational outreach summer programs with organizations, colleges and research organizations, summer jobs in research, career counseling, tutoring, application essays reviews, and encouragement. Having direct contact with a person working in the position I desired was priceless as it increased my accountability and dedication to fulfilling my goals. I feel that having such a bond is a very necessary criteria for achievement; Imagine the impact those bonds can have on those who lack support.” ~Tamika Barrant, M.D.
KITES currently seeks persons dedicated to making a difference in a child’s life
by the investment of time. We appreciate the interest of all, but especially
encourage professionals from math, technology, engineering, and science
backgrounds interested in being paired with a mentee to provide guidance
and counseling and/or serve as a guest speaker, provide enriching experiences
on site or offsite locations. If interested, please contact us for more details:
